When you get a DIY nail job, you don't need long or wide nails too! You should build up that wall for use on a wider length of area. A 1:1 ratio is good for your longer nail job, your nails will hold up better when cut. A 1:1 is not necessary because you will work better and have a wider section of space for your nails. This is ideal for working on small pieces.

Also, because your nails will be able to stay sharp during a long haul, you want to have great depth of coverage when cutting. I typically use the 1:1 ratio to get good smooth, high level coverage that will keep your fingers and nails nice and dry. The other main benefit of the 1:1 ratio is that it tends to give your nails a tighter grip (better leverage) than the 1:2 ratio which will put a slight strain on your hands, and it also allows you flexibility in your tool use.

In practice, I use a 1:1 to get a better feel for a long haul and to help my nails stay in good quality. This will help make my nail job more effective and even last longer.
